Special Needs: Heartworm treatment started 11/11/09
Description:
She is not available for transport out east. She needs a home with a fenced in yard so she can run and explore and no stairs/steps.
10/25/09- UPDATE- Shanna will be starting heartworm treatment in November 11th and should be done by mid January. She has been on Rimadyl and that has taken care of her hip/pelvic pains, and now she is off of it and doing well. It may be something that she has to live with and overexertion may aggravate it. She is a a foster home with 6 boxers and she plays with them and is tough girl and then wants up in your lap for loving. She is full of character and demands attention and love. She is very strong in her arms to make up for her back end that is weak on one area. We forget she has a problem as nothing stops her. She is all SMILES when she wakes up and goes to bed. Please put in an application for this special gal!!
10/10/09- Shanna has returned to her initial foster home where she will be starting heartworm treatment soon. She is having some pain on the back right leg/hip where she had the pelvic breaks, so will find out what is going on. Going up and down stairs to a second floor of a house is hard on her. Very sweet girl, who needs a fenced in area, as she will not potty being on a leash. She loves kids and people!! And she loves being the only dog demanding attention, but gets along after she is sure she is safe with new dogs.
8/24/09- New picture of our Shanna who has so much personality. She is sitting with her good leg sticking out...she is a lot of fun and is a happy girl...
8/14/09- SHANNA has gained 17 lbs since being rescued and looks so much better. She has so much love to give and has so much character. She has the most gorgeous underbite and she loves to give kisses. She gets around good and sometimes her back right leg gets tired and doesn't touch the floor, but it doesn't stop her. It will take a few more months for her to gain weight before we can start HW treatment.
7/18/09- SHANNA IS IN A FOSTER HOME!! and with other Boxers and training is going well. She is a gorgeous flashy fawn!! More updates to follow on this girl!!
6/18/09- Shanna's progress with her broken pelvic bones is amazing. She can walk and run and it is not too crooked. She is a sweet dog who loves attention and gets very jealous if she sees other dogs getting attention. She doesn't like other dogs of all sizes or cats. She has had a rough life. She will be spayed on Monday, and then needs to gain more weight for heartworm treatment. Shanna needs a foster home so bad!! She would be great to sit on the couch with you, play and have her own home. She can't stay at the vet in boarding forever!! Please consider helping this sweetie. She is in Texarkana and can be transported.
5/27/09- Shanna is doing better. She has the cutest underbite and is a sweetie pie. She loves adults and will sit in your lap and give lots of kisses. She loves to get dog cookies. She still does not like cats or dogs of any size. She needs a foster home with no animals and lots of love. She needs to give her pelvic bone time to heal, even though she is a fiesty girl and can walk. She is all bones and needs to gain weight to be able to be spayed and then get heartworm treatment. We have a hard time finding a home with no kids or other animals. She will love whoever will give her a chance!! Please consider fostering this sweet girl. She is not going to make the progress she needs at the vet in boarding. Thanks!!
5/19/09- Shanna is heartworm positive and is not spayed. She got her shots and rabies shot.
5/18/09- Shanna has had a very hard life and look at the pain in her face. She was picked up by Animal Control with a reported possible broken leg. Due to city rules, she stayed there for 5 days in the kill shelter. The owner did not show up and she got no medical treatment while she was in the shelter. BoxAR Rescue saved Shanna before she was euthanized. We were not sure that she was going to make it as it was thought to be a fatal injury. Vet did x-rays and her pelvic bone is broken in two places and she most likely was hit by a car. Vet consulted a specialist and it was decided that she can heal on her own without surgery. She will have a weird gait with the injury to her right back hip. She needs sponsors to help pay her boarding and medical bills. She will need to stay at the vet for at least 2-4 weeks. We need to find her a special foster home to take good care of her. She doesn't like other dogs or cats. Needs to be a home without a lot of activity. Of course as she gets out of pain, we will find out more about her personality. She is all bones and now she is going to get heartworm test, etc, to see what else we are dealing with. Please put this girl in your prayers and let's put a smile on her sweet face and let her know she is going to have a happy life!!
NOTE: We are not a shelter or pound. We don't have a facility. We are all volunteers who love the Boxers. We have jobs and families and don't have "regular business hours". For this reason, we don't show the dogs until an application has been submitted. Submitting an application does not obligate you to adopt a Boxer, but it does tell us that your interest in rescue is serious. We thank you for being considerate of our time and efforts.
