Please help Skittles get the medical attention she needs. We certainly don't know all that she has suffered, but the graphic pictures tell her story of pain and suffering. This picture is hard to look at, and there are several more on her webpage. She was found in the woods near Fayetteville, Arkansas covered with maggots, fleas and ticks. Besides the horrible wounds that are visible, upon x-ray, she was found to have a 22 shell in her flank. She has chronic degenerative problems in her left hip from a previous old injury that has healed and become arthritic. The muscles of that leg are atrophied from chronic non-use. The eventual best correction for this is FHO surgery to remove the "ball" from the ball & socket of the hip joint. At this time, she requires intensive wound care which includes epsom salt soaks, hydrotherapy and antibiotics. We can't consider the surgery until her wounds have healed. Amazingly, she is heartworm negative, but very strong positive for ehrlichia for which she is currently being treated with doxycycline. As you can well imagine, her veterinary care will be expensive. We need your help to sponsor this sweet girl back to good health! Can't you just see the pain in her eyes? The vet stated that she is a fighter and has the will to live. We will update her page as she mends, but meanwhile, won't you become a "Skittles's Angel"?

JEWEL THE MIRACLE BOXER
  Remember this sad looking Jewel (on left)? Look at her now (on right). She was collapsing when we
got her out of the kill shelter and she started heartworm treatment right away and had a slim chance
to live. She had many episodes when she almost didn't make it. After two months of heartworm treatment, her Vet reports that she is a MIRACLE. She had a strong will to live and we were not
ready to lose another Boxer to heartworms (after losing Wilson). She is ready for adoption now, as foster Mom is not able to keep her much longer. Please consider adopting JEWEL!!!

  On Saturday, June 28, BoxAR went "patriotic". We took pictures of many "patriotic pooches" at the North Little Rock Petsmart! It was a double event; Luke, Hudson and Murphy were there to raise awareness of canine cancer. A great time was had by all, as you can tell from the above pictures! The rising cost of vet bills and the high number of dogs we receive needing heartworm treatment is draining our rescue organization. We have many outstanding vet bills due to severity of health problems and the number of dogs needing rescue. We have a couple of dogs like Jewel who need a lot of vet care and her bill is getting bigger and bigger.
